Choosing a groomer is just half the battle. Communicating with your groomer to get the type of style you want and create a working relationship is another story. Groomers in the United States are not required to have a license, so basically, anyone can call themselves a groomer!
Groomers are not mind readers. Poodle owners need to be able to explain how they want the Poodle cut. Having a picture of the type of cut you want helps tremendously. But, like humans, all Poodles have different bone structure, coat texture and color, which as a result, may not produce results exactly like the picture.
Following the tips below should help you to achieve the best possible results with your groomer:
Show a photo of the trim you want to the groomer.
Explain what you like and don’t like.
Don’t let the groomer do whatever they like, unless you mean it.
Ask the groomer for suggestions.
Mention any instructions from the vetenarian.
Try and have the same groomer trim your dog each time.
Know the difference between one inch and three inches.
As well as getting the best possible trim for your Poodle, you should also check out the grooming facility and the experience of the groomer. Also, check with the Better Business Bureau to see if they’ve had any complaints filed against them. Here are some things to ask before using their services:
How long have you been in the grooming business and where did you learn to groom?
What’s included in the grooming price?
Have you groomed Poodles before?
Do you use clipper as well as scissors when grooming Poodles?
Do you have any references or photos of other Poodles you’ve groomed?
Do you use a hand or standing dryer to dry the Poodles?
What do you charge for your service?
If you do a little research before choosing a groomer, you should be able to find one that you and your Poodle are comfortable with.
